Carpi ChievoChievo’s eyes are firmly set on a top 10 finish as they host a Carpi side currently fighting for their Serie A lives at Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi on Saturday afternoon.

Currently sitting in the 9th position and only a single point behind Lazio, the Gialloblu will be looking to pick up points in the closing stages of a successful season in order to cement their place in the top half of the table. Following a strong run of form which has seen them lose only once in their last five games, Chievo have proven that they are a team to be taken seriously, as exemplified in their impressive 3-1 victory over Palermo last Sunday.

The Biancorossi meanwhile, find themselves in the midst of a relegation battle and currently sit 17th, level on points with Palermo in the dreaded 18th spot but ahead on goal differential. In a desperate race to recover points in the hopes of saving their Serie A dreams for another season, Carpi embarked on an impressive five-game unbeaten run that was halted last weekend when they fell 3-1 to Sassuolo.

The last time these two teams squared off, Rolando Maran’s Chievo side emerged victorious by a score of 2-1 at the Stadio Alberto Braglia in November. Roberto Inglese and Riccardo Meggiorni gave Chievo an early advantage before an Alessandro Gamberini own goal made things close.

Chievo will be without centre-back Dario Dainelli who is suffering from crucial ligament damage and Simone Pepe who is out and awaiting a examination, while Carpi coach Fabrizio Castori will be forced to make do without the services of Raffaele Bianco who has succumb to muscular problems. Neither side are facing any suspensions.
