Mauro Icardi - InterFrosinone were dealt a stinging 1-0 defeat by Inter at the Stadio Matusa in their Saturday afternoon Serie A fixture.

A single goal from Mauro Icardi was enough to see off the relegation candidates who had Leonardo Blanchard sent off late on.

The visitors came the closest to taking the lead early on when a quick interchange between Alex Telles and Ivan Perisic saw the ball cleared nervously by Arlind Ajeti. The Albanian almost putting the ball into his own net. Jonathan Biabiany was next to trouble the Frosinone goal, but he sent his shot wide of Nicola Leali and the post.

Felipe Melo came close with a drive from distance, the deflected effort going out for a corner. The home side had their first chance and the best of the half, the ball landing at the feet of Luca Paganini on the edge of the area, but he dragged his shot wide from a great position.

Perisic squandered a great opportunity before half time, sending the cross from Biabiany behind for a goal-kick; the Croatian was in a perfect position to open the scoring. In the second half Perisic tried to make amends with a well flighted free kick into Jeison Murillo, but the Colombian couldn’t get his header on target.

The Canarini then hit the woodwork on three separate occasions: Blanchard, Paganini, and Daniel Pavlovic all aggrieved not to have scored. Despite their chances, Frosinone were made to pay when Mauro Icardi brilliantly headed a cross from Perisic past Leali for his 50th goal in the Nerazzurri jersey.

Frosinone would finish the game with ten men after Blanchard picked up a second booking with ten minutes to go, with one final effort coming from Matteo Ciofani who went just wide of the post.
