Palermo at the Stadio Matusa in their Sunday morning Serie A clash.

Goals from Alberto Gilardino and Aleksandar Trajkovski move them above the Canarini, creating a new twist in the relegation fight.

The first real chance of the game presented itself for Daniel Ciofani, but the striker was unable to direct his shot on target. At the other end Sinisa Andelkovic missed the chance to test Nicola Leali when his header went wide, but would have been judged offside had it got past the goalkeeper. Frosinone had one final chance in the half, a glancing header from Leonardo Blanchard going just wide.

In the second half the home side continued to threaten, a great delivery from Oliver Kragl found Luca Paganini, but the forward somehow put his header over the bar. Kragl then had a chance of his own, but couldn’t beat Stefano Sorrentino from a tight angle. Despite their early pressure, it was the Rosanero that would take the lead.

A great cross from Andrea Rispoli found Alberto Gilardino, who beat Leali to the ball and headed into the back of the net; his ninth of the season and second against Frosinone this campaign. Sorrentino then braced himself for a tirade of Frosinone chances, Ciofani combining with Federico Dionisi and getting a shot away, forcing the Palermo shot-stopper to parry it out for a corner.

Ciofani then had a shot closed down, and then Sorrentino had to dash off his line to deny Paginini and Danilo Soddimo. Aleksandar Trajkovski then netted in the dying moments, the defenders melted away and just had to beat Leali one-on-one. The goal crushed the spirits of Frosinone and Palermo were able to calmly finish the game and claim all three points.
