3-1 triumph over Udinese on Saturday evening.

The Nerazzurri are four points back of Roma, with the Giallorossi set to square off against Napoli on Sunday afternoon, and Saturday’s victory ensures that the Nerazzurri will live to fight another day.

“We had to win in order to keep the flame of hope flickering, stranger things have happened in football so there is still hope,” Mancini told Premium Sports.

“It was a strange match, we should have closed it out early but instead we suffered and risked dropping more points.”

Misfiring forwards Stevan Jovetic and Eder both managed to find the back of the net, and the coach shares in the relief of his players.

“Jovetic did well to score two goals but he is a player with the potential to be great and he knows that he needs to continue to improve,” the 51-year-old noted.

“As for Eder, it was important for him to score as he has played well but has been unfortunate thus far.”

Mancini concluded with assurances that his job at the club is indeed safe.

“There are no problems in relation to my future at the club, this is the work of journalists,” he said.
