Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini will be sidelined for approximately three weeks as he recovers from a thigh injury he picked up during his side’s 1-0 victory over Empoli on Saturday evening.

The 31-year-old defender underwent medical tests on Monday to observe the severity of the injury.

“Having exited the field of play during the second half of Juventus’ win over Empoli on Saturday evening, Giorgio Chiellini underwent tests this afternoon, which revealed a first-grade tear in the adductor longus muscle in his right thigh,” a statement on Juventus’ official website read.  “The defender will be out of action for approximately 20 days.”

With this injury, it means that Chiellini is certain to miss The Old Lady’s visit to Stadio Giuseppe Meazza this Saturday as they take on AC Milan. He could also miss the following games against Palermo, Lazio and Fiorentina.

The Italian has featured in 22 Serie A matches this season for Juve, as he has had injury troubles in the second part of the season.
