Stephan-El-Shaarawy-Roma-1Lazio coach Stefano Pioli lamented on how his team should not have lost heavily to Roma in the Derby della Capitale on Sunday afternoon.

The Biancocelesti were beaten 4-1 by the Giallorossi but Pioli was adamant he had the right team to take on Luciano Spalletti’s side and that his side was capable enough of obtaining at least a point from the game despite some poor defending.

“The result was too harsh on the team that I sent onto the pitch,” Pioli told Mediaset Premium. “I believe that I had put on the pitch the most suitable formation to face this challenge.

“In the first half, we suffered from the pressure applied by Roma and we did not take a lot of risks. In the second half, we put them under pressure and came close to getting a draw.

“We are working to better ourselves but we always pay a dear price. The moments that penalise us the most came from our mistakes but that is how things are.

“Now we must show dignity and professionalism up to the final round.”

Lazio are currently eighth in Serie A with 42 points and they will travel away to Palermo in the next round.
