Lazio following the sacking of Stefano Pioli.
The Lazio hotseat is currently occupied by Simone Inzaghi, who has been in temporary charge since Pioli’s dismissal, and whose debut on the bench was a 3-0 victory over Palermo.
Inzaghi is keen to be confirmed on a permanent basis, but Montella is favoured by sporting director Igli Tare, according to Il Messaggero.
As well as Inzaghi and Montella, ex-Lazio defender Sinisa Mihaijlovic, recently sacked by AC Milan but who gets on with Lazio president Claudio Lotito, has been linked with the job.
The fourth potential candidate is Eusebio Di Francesco, who has achieved great success at Sassuolo and is considered to be one of Italy’s best young coaches.
But the favourite is ex-Fiorentina coach Montella, who won the Scudetto as a player with Lazio’s bitter rivals Roma.
