Torino were beaten 3-1 by an impressive Sassuolo performance at Stadio Olimpico di Torino on Sunday afternoon in Serie A.

Nicola Sansone opened the scoring in just the second minute with a fine header to put the visitors ahead. Bruno Peres didn’t take long to equalise after striking low from the edge of the box. With 15 minutes to go, Federico Peluso headed home from a corner before Marcello Trotta prodded home with the last kick of the game to seal the three points for the Neroverdi.

Both sides started the contest in quick fashion and it came as little surprise to see the back of the net ripple so early on. Good work on the right led to Alfred Duncan swinging in a lovely cross. Sansone made a good run from deep and powered his header past the helpless Daniele Padelli.

Spurred on by conceding the early goal, Torino pressed harder and played direct through the middle. Peres drove out powerfully and exchanged passes with Daniele Baselli, before jinking inside and struck a daisy cutter just inside the far post.

Both sides were certainly up for this game and looked comfortable in possession. However shots on goal were limited and Joseph Martinez should have taken the hosts in at half time with the lead. After receiving a well weighted pass, he fired off the crossbar after the ball bounced up at his feet.

The second half started with Torino taking the game to the visitors. As much as they tried, they struggled to find the opening and it was Sassuolo who scored their second after 75 minutes. Peluso escaped the tight marking to head into the ground and watched his effort bounce into the top corner.

Il Toro became more aggressive as they chased an equaliser but Sassuolo were able to take advantage in the dying moments. With the last kick of the game Marcello Trotta surprised the ‘keeper with an early strike and made it 3-1.

The result keeps Sassuolo in 7th place and saw Torino stay in comfortable mid-table in 12th, thus sealing another year in Serie A.
