salahAnother disappointing AC Milan season is now in the books, as the Rossoneri fell 3-1 to Roma at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza on Saturday night.

The Giallorossi made a vibrant start to the match and took the lead in the 19th minute through Mohamed Salah. In the second-half Stephen El Shaarawy made it 2-0 in the 59th minute. In the 82nd minute Emerson added a third. Carlos Bacca gave the Rossoneri a consolation goal three minutes from time.

Roma dominated the early stages, but it was a mistake from Milan defender Alex which gifted I Lupi their first chance, as the Brazilian’s lazy back-pass was picked up by Salah who drove towards goal but fired his shot limply wide.

Minutes later the Egyptian opened the scoring. On the counter-attack Kevin Strootman chipped a stunning pass over the Milan defence to put Salah through on goal, and the Egyptian made no mistake slotting past Gianluigi Donnarumma.

In the 29th minute the Rossoneri had their first shot on target when Keisuke Honda’s curled effort was saved low by Wojiech Szczesny.

After the interval the Giallorossi created the first opportunity, Alessandro Florenzi bursting up the pitch and cutting inside but his effort was tame and was easily saved.

Minutes later Roma made it 2-0. Miralem Pjanic produced an amazing pass over the Milan defence playing in El Shaarawy who controlled brilliantly before producing a classy finish.

Four minutes later Donnarumma made a simply stupendous save to push away Francesco Totti’s fierce free-kick.

In the 74th minute Szczesny produced another spectacular low save to deny Honda’s diving header.

Nine minutes before full-time Roma made it 3-0. Salah’s thrashed strike was palmed straight out to Emerson who calmly tucked the rebound away.

Milan did get a consolation goal back as Bacca met Giacomo Bonaventura’s cross which forced an initial save from Szczesny but the Colombian quickly latched onto the rebound and tapped it home.

Napoli’s victory means that Roma finish the season in third place and will enter the Champions League through the qualification phase. Milan, meanwhile, finish the season in seventh and will need to defeat Juventus in order to secure European competition next season.
