ranieriFollowing Claudio Ranieri’s remarkable feat of winning the Premier League, FIGC president Carlo Tavecchio admits he would like to see the tactician guide the Azzurri to their fifth World Cup success.

With Antonio Conte set to step down from his post to take over at Chelsea after the 2016 European Championship, there has been much speculation building with regard to who will succeed the former Juventus coach.

“I would love to see Ranieri win a World Cup with Italy,” Tavecchio said, as reported by ANSA. “It is great to see an Italian succeed abroad.

“We are great exporters of the Italian style, commitment and sense of duty. These are all features that I recognise in Ranieri, which I would love to see him take Italy into a World Cup with.”

That said, however, Tavecchio was quick to mute speculation that the former Inter and Roma boss would be the next to take over, insisting that Ranieri had time on his side.

“I am speaking in a general sense,” he added. “Not specifically about the next tournament. Claudio is still young and has time.

“He needs to think about us. For now, we are thinking of a number of possibilities.”
