Palermo at the Stadio Artemio Franchi on Sunday afternoon, the Rosanero clinching a vital point in their survival quest.

The Viola started the better side, putting pressure on the Rosanero with their usual dominant possession, but lacking the final blow in the box to find the opener.

Federico Bernardeschi seemed particularly inspired and had a shot on target on 10 minutes; not a problem for Stefano Sorrentino.

For the second half of the first 45 minutes, it was the Rosanero who tried attacking, pushing Fiorentina back but being unable to build anything dangerous.

The first half ended with little happening and the home fans booing their team as they walked back into the changing rooms.

The second half started with Palermo immediately going close to finding the lead, first with Michel Morganella and then with Alberto Gilardino.

Knowing Carpi were losing in the meantime at home to Lazio gave Davide Ballardini’s men the motivation to go for goal.

Fiorentina had the best chance to lead, though, when on 58 minutes Kalinic collected a Mauro Zarate assist, his shot beating Sorrentino but not the post.

On 61 minutes the whole Artemio Franchi said the final goodbye to their captain Manuel Pasqual, at his last home game after 11 seasons with the club.

Paulo Sousa’s team went close to scoring again, with a Mati Fernandez free kick curling just wide.

Not much happened in any case, with the usual end of season atmosphere taking over the motivation of the players, and the Fiorentina fans booing the players yet again in the second half.

Palermo were happy to draw and take home a point that sees them now in 17th spot, ahead of Carpi and out of the drop zone.
