borrielloAtalanta close out the Serie A season with a 2-1 victory over Genoa at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris on Sunday evening.

The first half proved to be a damp squid with neither side producing any real moment of danger. Yet in 52nd minute Marco D’Alessandro provided that moment of quality to give La Dea the lead. In the 58th minute the Grifone got back into the match through Leonardo Pavoletti but the away side took the points through Jasmin Kurtic in the 82nd minute.

The match started a lightning pace, with Genoa just about in the ascendancy and it was the Grifone who created the first meaningful chance when Luca Rigoni headed over from a fizzed in corner.

However, following this incident the match became scrappy and was severely lacking in quality. Alejandro Gomez broke this trend when his 25-yard strike flew narrowly wide.

In the 37th minute Genoa should have taken the lead when Cristian Ansaldi’s cross found Diego Laxalt at the back post but the Uruguayan fired his effort into the side netting.

After the interval Atalanta took the lead with their first chance of the half. Gomez picked the ball up in the centre-circle, burst forward and slipped in D’Alessandro who lifted the ball over goalkeeper Eugenio Lamanna.

Just six minutes later the Grifone equalised. Suso’s corner was flicked on into the path of Pavoletti who, on the slide, thrashed the ball into the net.

Genoa were piling on the pressure and could have taken the lead when Ezequiel Munoz powered his header straight into the ground inside the six-yard box, from Suso’s free-kick.

In the 82nd minute La Dea took the lead. Gomez’s whipped cross from the left-wing went through everyone in the box and was glanced in by Jasmin Kurtic.

The result does nothing in the standings, leaving Genoa in 11th place and Atalanta in 13th.
