Roma are reportedly interested in recruiting Newcastle United attacking midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum to the Stadio Olimpico this summer.

Following the Magpies’ relegation to the Football League Championship, the Dutchman looks to be on his way out in order for the club to shed some excess salary.

According to the Daily Mail, the Giallorossi have shown interest in bringing the 25-year-old to Rome but will face competition from West Ham United, who are also keen on the versatile midfielder who can also be deployed on either wing.

Wijnaldum arrived in Tyneside last summer and enjoyed an impressive debut season in the Premier League, scoring 11 goals and adding five assists, ending the season as the Magpies’ top scorer.

Previously, the Dutch international starred for PSV Eindhoven, scoring 14 goals as the Boeren went on to win the 2014-15 Eredivisie.
