Strong rumours linking Vincenzo Montella to the AC Milan job in recent days have turned out to be true after the club confirmed his arrival.

The former Sampdoria and Fiorentina boss takes over from Cristian Brocchi, Milan’s former Primavera coach, who had been in the job for mere months since Sinisa Mihajlovic’s firing.

“Vincenzo Montella is our new Coach, he has signed a two-year contract which begins on July 1,” a statement from the club says.

“It is the belief of the club that the style of play of the new Rossoneri Coach will be the basis of a fruitful and positive collaboration.

“A heartfelt thanks to Cristian Brocchi for the enthusiasm, preparation and intensity with which he approached his career as Milan Coach with the youth team, the Primavera and the first team.”

Montella apparently got a big seal of approval from club president Silvio Berlusconi, who had originally been hesitant over the idea of replacing Brocchi at the helm.

He pips the likes of Frank De Boer and Marco Giampaolo to the post, with both names linked recently.
