AC Milan are reportedly interested in Newcastle United’s Moussa Sissoko, as he looks keen to depart the recently relegated side.

The Frenchman joined Newcastle in January 2013, and has since captained the side for the final few games of last season as they were relegated to the Championship.

It has been reported by Footmercato.net that even with Rafa Benitez staying, Sissoko will look for first team football at a higher level than England’s second tier.

“I gave everything in 3 and a half years here,” Sissoko said about his time in England’s North East. “I hope that Newcastle are smart enough to understand that to continue to improve, I have to keep playing at the highest level.

“If I want to continue playing with the French national team, I cannot stay in the Championship.”

Sissoko only found one goal in his 37 appearances for Newcastle last season, as the magpies fell through the Premier League’s trapdoor and into the Championship.
