higuainSerie A side Napoli will be able to keep their star Gonzalo Higuain, according to the club’s president, Aurelio De Laurentiis.

The 28-year-old striker has been rumoured to be on his way out of the Stadio San Paolo, with top international clubs keeping a close eye on him; however, De Laurentiis believes that the player will remain with the Azzurri.

“He is young and his family has high moral values,” the Partenopei president said to Il Corriere della Sera, “and I have not received any offer equalling the value of the buy-out clause, €94 million.

“Even in the case of a club offering that sum, he could still remain, because there is no other team that can offer him the passion and the importance that he is receiving here.”

De Laurentiis went on comparing Higuain to former Napoli star Diego Armando Maradona.

“Maradona entered the world’s football history thanks to Napoli, and Higuain should understand that there is no context in which he would be appreciated like he is here.

“I have the feeling that he will not betray us,” Napoli’s president concluded.

Higuain showed a stunning form throughout his Serie A season, scoring a record 36 goals in his 35 appearances.
