Roma are reportedly preparing an offer to bring Manchester City defender Pablo Zabaleta to the capital this summer.

With news breaking that Stephan El Shaarawy is set to sign for the Giallorossi on a permanent basis, the club is looking to reinforce the defence and they view the 31-year-old as a suitable candidate.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Luciano Spalletti’s side believe that Manchester City may be open to selling the Argentine as he only has one year remaining on his current contract, which is set to expire in the summer of 2017.

This isn’t the first time Roma have turned to Manchester City for defensive options as they also signed Maicon for free in 2013 after the Premier League outfit agreed to mutually terminate the player’s deal.

Roma have reportedly already made contact with the player and the club.

Zabaleta signed for Manchester City in 2008, where he joined from Spanish side Espanyol.

He has since gone on to make 301 appearances for The Citizens, however he only featured in 13 Premier League games last season due to injury problems.
