The 22-year-old wore the Nerazzurri colours for two years and grabbed eight goals in 97 games before moving to Spain to join La Liga giants Real Madrid, for whom he played 25 times last season.

He didn’t manage to score in the league, however, and for this reason, according to fichajes.net, Los Blancos would be willing to send him out on loan for a bit more experience, with Milan appearing to be the prime destination.

From the point of view of the Rossoneri, a loan would be ideal as they would not be willing to spend to secure his signature, however, they would be keen to have him in the squad.

Kovacic is expected to be back in the city of Milan over the coming days, when a move to Vincenzo Montella’s side could be finalised.

There has been further reassurance that he will complete the switch to the red and black side of Milan, as he doesn’t want to play for Inter again if Roberto Mancini remains coach.
