Vicenzo Montella FiorentinaAC Milan‘s newly appointed coach Vincenzo Montella is preparing a complete rebuild of his defensive line-up.

The Rossoneri have lacked a significant leader at the back over the past few seasons, a problem which has plagued them in their search for European competition.

However, their new man at the helm looks to buck the trend and turn things around for the better, as according to Il Milanista, Montella is hoping to bring in immediate replacements for the recently departed Frenchman Philippe Mexes and Brazilian Alex, who both walked away from the club in June after their contracts were left to expire.

The report states that the former Fiorentina coach is screening three main candidates in Villarreal CF’s Mateo Musacchio, Benfica’s Victor Lindelof, and Jonathan Tah of Bayer Leverkusen.

The latter is a talented youngster who would line-up alongside Alessio Romagnoli to form a formidable couple of young prospects; the same perspective is shared for Lindelof, a versatile 21-year-old who excelled for Benfica as they clinched the Portuguese title last season.

Musacchio, on the contrary, would add experience to the renovated defensive line-up as despite his relatively young age of just 25-years, he has accumulated over 200 appearances for the Yellow Submarine at a senior level.
