Premier League transfer hopefuls West Ham United and Liverpool have been snubbed by Barcelona’s Thomas Vermaelen.

The English pair had hoped to land the former Arsenal centre back on the cheap this summer, but have been dealt a blow with reports suggesting that the Belgium much prefers Italy.

At present, and according to Gazzetta World, it appears as though it’ll be Roma and Inter fighting it out for him this summer.

Unfortunately for the 30-year-old, he endured yet another injury hit campaign last season and has fallen out of favour.

It is believed that Inter are currently the favourites for his signature, although Roma do have the benefit of being able to offer him a place in the Champions League playoff round at least next season.

Vermaelen has made just 11 league appearances for Barcelona in the two years he’s spent there since joining from Arsenal.
