Sampdoria coach Walter Zenga has joined English club Wolverhampton Wanderers, following the exit of Kenny Jackett.

Jackett joined Wolves in 2013 and guided them to promotion from the English League One, before finishing 14th in the Championship last season.

As announced on the club’s official Twitter account, Zenga has taken over from Jackett at Molineux and will oversee proceedings next season, a move which comes soon after the club were taken over by a Chinese consortium.

Jackett was sacked late on Friday evening by the new owners, before Zenga was brought in early Saturday morning.

The 56-year-old played for the Azzurri between 1987 and 1992 and has took charge of Catania, Palermo and Sampdoria since retiring from professional football.

He has spent the majority of his recent managerial career in Asia, however his honours as coach come from Romania and Serbia, where he won the Liga I and the SuperLiga with Steaua Bucuresti and Red Star Belgrade respectively.
