Inter defender Yuto Nagatomo has said the Nerazzurri should not rule out the possibility of a Serie A title this season.

They finished in fourth place last year, with the powers of Juventus, Napoli and Roma being too strong for them, however Nagatomo is feeling quietly confident that Inter could cause an upset this time around.

“Our goal will be to reach third place, but I will not exclude the possibility of the Scudetto from the beginning, although it certainly won’t be easy,” the 29-year-old told Hochi Shimbun.

Inter have brought in two defenders so far this summer, namely Caner Erkin and Cristian Ansaldi, and Nagatomo has admitted that it will be a challenge to preserve his spot in the starting line-up, however his desire to do so is not dwindling.

“I want to win a starting place,” the Japanese international said. “It will be harder than last season because two very strong players have arrived so there will be more competition, but that’s my goal.”
