Napoli are reportedly nearing the signing of want-away Sunderland midfielder Emanuele Giaccherini, having agreed terms with the player.

Giaccherini, who caught the attention of many with his performances for Italy at Euro 2016, is expected to complete his return to Italy in the coming days to join Maurizio Sarri’s Partenopei.

As reported by Sport Mediaset, the player has agreed to move to the Stadio San Paolo on a three-year contract, with Sunderland to receive just €2 million for the transfer.

Having spent the entirety of the 2015-16 campaign on loan at fellow Serie A side Bologna, Giaccherini is thought to have been keen to secure a permanent return to Italy for some time now.

Giaccherini’s rise to international stardom has been an unlikely one, with the player previously overlooked at Cesena, where he was loaned out to Forli, Bellaria Igea and Pavia, before finally breaking into the Cavallucci Marini first team.

In 2011, the energetic midfielder clinched a move to Juventus, where he went on to win back-to-back Scudetti under Antonio Conte.
