Despite the views of Inter fans on the player, club president Erick Thohir has said that captain Mauro Icardi will not be sold this summer.
A recent poll showed that the majority of Nerazzurri supporters want the Argentine to give up the captain’s armband as a result of comments made by his wife, Wanda Nara, however Thohir has stressed that Icardi has his full backing.
“Mauro is part of Inter’s heritage, he is our captain and he is not for sale,” the Indonesian said, as reported by the club’s official website.
Thohir also praised Inter boss Roberto Mancini, labelling him a champion and underlining the importance of his knowledge.
“I have read many things written about Roberto Mancini,” he said.
“I will meet him in the United States, but I want to reiterate what I have always said and thought: he is our champion, thanks to his capabilities and his broad experience.”
