Sassuolo will face Serbian side Red Star Belgrade in their Europa League play-off match.

The Nerovderi came sixth in Serie A last season and defeated FC Luzern 4-1 across two legs in the third qualifying round earlier this week, meaning they have just one more match to win before being entered in the Europa League Group Stage, after only being promoted to the Italian top-flight for the first time in 2013.

The draw took place on Friday afternoon in Nyon, Switzerland, with Sassuolo facing Serbian side Red Star Belgrade across two legs, at home on August 18 and away August 25.

Because Sassuolo have never been in European competition before, these two sides have never met before in a competitive match, so there is little history between them to determine who are favourites to advance.

Red Star Belgrade won the Serbian SuperLiga last season and won the Champions League, then called the European Cup, in 1991.

Sassuolo are one of four clubs making their Europa League debut this season, the others being Portuguese side Arouca, Turkish side Osmanlispor and Danish team SonderjyskE.
