Winner – Gianluigi Donnarumma
Following a glaringly underwhelming summer for AC Milan, new coach Vincenzo Montella would have known that the Rossoneri’s opening fixture against Torino was a must-win if Milan were going to keep the Diavolo fans onside. Milan dominated most of the game taking the lead in first-half through Carlos Bacca. Torino responded early in the second-half but Montella’s side continued to look dangerous going forward and soon led 3-1, Bacca grabbing a hat-trick.
However, in injury time Milan fell asleep defensively as Sinisa Mihajlovic’s Granata upped the intensity and they pulled another goal back through Daniele Baselli. Right at the death Gabriel Paletta foolishly gave away a needless penalty as the atmosphere in Stadio Giuseppe Meazza edged towards toxic.
Step up Milan’s great saviour and the club’s shining light, Gianluigi Donnarumma, who produced a save his namesake Gianluigi Buffon would have been proud to deny Andrea Belotti.
Who knows how big a moment that could be for the Rossoneri and Montella?
