AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani has revealed there were six different possible names to take over on the Rossoneri coaching bench.

Montella took the coaching role at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza at the start of the season following the departures of Sinisa Mihajlovic and Cristian Brocchi.

“Montella is a coach who gives his all to ensure a victory for his team,” Galliani told Milan TV.

“This is something that appeals to president [Silvio] Berlusconi and the fans.

“Montella was one of six candidates, including [Cristian] Brocchi. Two names were giants in the coaching world, while the other three were Montella, [Frank] De Boer and [Marco] Giampaolo.

“As we saw during InterJuventus, De Boer isn’t a bad coach.”

Milan beat Lazio 2-0 on Tuesday night in their most recent Serie A fixture.
