Round four of the 2016-17 Serie A season saw the first major derby of the season, while the other nine fixtures included plenty of goals and quality play.
We at Forza Italian Football bring you a round up of each round every week, so here are this weekend’s winners and losers.
Winner – Roma
What a way to celebrate Francesco Totti’s 40th birthday with a superb 2-1 win over rivals Inter on Sunday night, confounding the leading online sportsbook odds. The Giallorossi started the game in excellent fashion, producing a lovely sweeping move which split apart the Nerazzurri defence and allowed Edin Dzeko to tap past Samir Handanovic. In fact, Roma’s domination of the early stages should have resulted in at least one more goal as Mohamed Salah missed a superb chance when put through one-on-one with Handanovic.
The second-half proved a much tighter affair and despite their win defensive issues still remain for I Lupi as Ever Banega’s equaliser really shouldn’t have been allowed to happen. However, Luciano Spalletti will hope this win can inspire his troops to replicate the consistency they showed at the back end of last season and allow them to secure their place in the top three this season.
