Round four of the 2016-17 Serie A season saw the first major derby of the season, while the other nine fixtures included plenty of goals and quality play.
We at Forza Italian Football bring you a round up of each round every week, so here are this weekend’s winners and losers.
Loser – Crotone
It’s going to a long slog of a season for the Squali. Seven games six losses and one draw make grim and ominous reading for a side which already looks destined to be heading back down to Serie B. This weekend they were humbled once again by an injury strewn Cagliari side, who are already settling nicely back into Serie A.
The contrast between these two teams couldn’t have been much sharper as the Sardinians played some lovely flowing football at times, whereas Crotone were turgid and incoherent in their attacking play. Defensively Davide Nicola’s side weren’t much better and a lot of work is going to be needed for the Squali to pick up a win at this level. They were able however to claim a consolation goal through a stunning free-kick from Adrian Stoian. Nevertheless, it was another miserable day for Crotone.
