After years of overhauling their squad and changing their coach every three or so months, 2017-18 could finally be the year that Inter settle down and show signs of progress.

Luciano Spalletti’s arrival as coach is one of the more shrewd appointments the club have made in recent years, and whether or not they remain patient enough to give the former Roma boss time will tell if they have learned from previous mistakes or if we can expect more of the same from the Biscione.

It has been a relatively quiet summer with regard to new additions to the playing staff, but those who have arrived appear to have been carefully considered and not just purchased on a whim by the club’s hierarchy.

Borja Valero will be a brilliant addition and add a cool head to their midfield, helping Roberto Gagliardini to develop in the presence of one of Serie A’s most impressive playmakers.

Matias Vecino has also arrived from Fiorentina, while Dalbert’s signing from Nice is one that Nerazzurri supporters have been crying out for in the last few years and has, finally, addressed one of the squad’s main weaknesses at full-back.

Spalletti is not one to tolerate anything other than complete professionalism from his players, and could be the man to put Inter back on track and have them competing for the Scudetto in the next couple of seasons.

For his first season, though, a reasonable expectation for Inter is that they challenge for a top four spot and a return to the Champions League. With Roma’s transitional summer there is an opportunity for the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza side to take advantage of.

After Juventus and Napoli, there isn’t too much separating those teams near the top and the Nerazzurri’s return to the top table of European football could be imminent, as long as they do what they haven’t done in recent years and show patience with their coach.
