Inter coach Luciano Spalletti expects his side to fight until the final day for a place in the Champions League after securing a 2-1 victory over Chievo on Sunday.

After seeing Roma earn three points against SPAL on Saturday, the Nerazzurri knew they needed a result to keep pace in the race for a top-four finish.

Mauro Icardi and Ivan Perisic’s goals were made all the more important as Lazio cruised to a 4-0 result over Sampdoria, and with all three teams separated by one point with just four matches remaining, Spalletti expects the fight to continue until the final day.

“I don’t know [if the match with Lazio will prove decisive], but I know that there are other important ones as well,” he told Premium Sport.

“It could be that in two games one team earns six points, while another only gets one and is out of the race.

“The team is aware that they are in a position to fight until the final day.”

Rafinha was once again one of Inter’s best players on Sunday, but Spalletti was quick to highlight the contribution of others.

“He [Rafinha] played a great game as he helped the team push forward and keep shape defensively,” the coach added. “Along with Marcelo [Brozovic], who played another great game and helped us.

“Mauro [Icardi] and Ivan [Perisic] are important for the side, but when the team brings the ball near the goal-line, it isn’t hard to tap it in. Credit must also go to the players that brought the ball there.”

Inter’s next match is the Derby d’Italia against Juventus on Saturday.
