Despite still officially being an AC Milan player, striker Carlos Bacca has publicly called on the club to allow him to leave due to his unhappiness in Italy.

After two reasonably successful seasons at the San Siro in which he clocked up 31 Serie A goals across both campaigns, he left the club last summer to return to LaLiga and join Villarreal on a season-long loan.

That move paid off for him on a personal level as he chalked up 18 goals in all competitions to win a place in Colombia’s squad for this summer’s World Cup and although he is scheduled to return to Milan after the tournament, he’s hopeful that won’t be the case.

“I feel good at the moment and hope to continue the good form I finished the season in and I liked how things went for me at Villarreal,” he told reporters at his country’s pre-World Cup retreat.

“Unfortunately, my last year at Milan didn’t go well and I had no fun on the pitch, I didn’t enjoy myself. It is thanks to Villarreal that I’m back in the national team and I want to stay there.”

Interestingly, the 31-year-old’s comments came at Colombia’s training camp before they depart for Russia – which is taking place at Milanello.
