Paris Saint-Germain are expected to complete the signing of Gianluigi Buffon this week on a two-year deal.

The goalkeeper bade an emotional farewell to Juventus over the weekend after 17 years of illustrious service in Turin, bowing out with yet another domestic double of the Scudetto and Coppa Italia.

Having spent the entirety of his career to date in Italy, he is set to conclude his playing days in France, with La Gazzetta dello Sport reporting that Buffon is expected to pen a contract in Paris on Wednesday or Thursday.

It is disclosed that further discussions between the parties took place on Monday and the 40-year-old has become convinced that the French capital is the ideal destination for him to conclude his career.

The former Parma shot-stopper will put pen to paper on a deal until June 2020, which is worth €4 million per season but that is not the only reasoning PSG have for swooping to sign him.

An offer is also on the table for Buffon to become an ambassador for the World Cup in Qatar in 2022 and it is one that he will accept as part of the deal to bring him to France.

French radio station RMC also reported that on Tuesday, a meeting will take place between new PSG coach Thomas Tuchel and current goalkeeper Alphonse Areola about what the arrival of Buffon means for him.

Areola is unlikely to oppose the move and on the contrary would welcome the 2006 World Cup winner as the perfect man to learn from, with Buffon unlikely to be utilised as a certain starter.
