AC Milan may have suffered a disappointing season following their big spending summer of 2017 but one of the bright spots was certainly the form of homegrown talent Patrick Cutrone.

A Scudetto challenge and at the very least a top four finish were the Rossoneri’s goals heading into the campaign and although they didn’t achieve those, the unearthing of the 20-year-old has given fans a reason to be encouraged.

Cutrone hit the net twice on the final weekend of the Serie A season against Fiorentina to bring his tally for the year into double figures with 10.

That record was enough to see him put his place in the top flight history books as no Italian striker had ever managed more goals in his debut Serie A campaign, aside from everyone’s favourite grizzled veteran, Dario Hubner.

He didn’t make it to the summit of Italian football until he was 33 following a journeyman career in the lower divisions but after joining Piacenza, he netted 24 goals during his first season in Serie A, the only peninsula player to eclipse the Milan youngster.

Star names such as Francesco Totti, Alessandro Del Piero, Filippo Inzaghi, Luca Toni, Christian Vieri and Alberto Gilardino among many others all failed to hit the heights of Cutrone during their first tastes of the top flight.

In addition, he is also one of two players born after New Year’s Day in 1998 to reach double figures for goals in Europe’s top five leagues this season, after Paris Saint-Germain starlet Kylian Mbappe also managed to pull off the feat.
