Juventus are ready to tie defensive duo Andrea Barzagli and Giorgio Chiellini down to new contracts with the club.

With long-term goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon departing after 17 seasons in Turin, the Bianconeri are in danger of losing more of their veterans, as Barzagli and Chiellini are out of contract in June.

However, steps have been taken to ensure the centre-backs remain at the Allianz Stadium, with Barzagli offered a one year extension, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

The 37-year-old is set to pen a deal until June 2019, whilst Chiellini, three years his teammate’s junior, is to be offered an extension until 2020.

Chiellini has spent the past 13 seasons with Juventus and could see out his career with the Scudetto holders, with the Bianconeri keen to retain him for his leadership within the dressing room.

Indeed, the former Livorno defender was confirmed as the club’s new captain following the departure of Buffon.

The duo were also teammates at international level, and represented Italy at six major tournaments together between the 2004 Olympic Games and Euro 2016.
