Inter midfielder Borja Valero has admitted that he dreams of returning to former club Real Madrid, whilst not ruling out a move to Spain in the near future.

The 33-year-old established himself in Los Blancos’ youth academy before moving on to Mallorca, but has not played in his native Spain since departing Villarreal for Fiorentina in 2012.

Having completed his maiden season at Inter after switching from La Viola, Valero admitted that he would like to return to Spanish football, preferably with Real Madrid.

With only a single friendly cap for his homeland, Valero also revealed that he was tempted to accept a call to represent Italy after becoming eligible.

“I must admit that I considered wearing the shirt of Italy, but I am Spanish and happier than anyone when the national team win,” the former West Bromwich Albion man told Radio Marca.

“Going back to Real Madrid would be a dream come true, but I would be happy to play for any Spanish club in the future.”

Valero has scored twice in 36 appearances for Inter this season, and helped the Nerazzurri secure a return to the Champions League with a fourth place finish.
