Carlo Ancelotti has been confirmed as the new coach of Napoli, replacing Maurizio Sarri by penning a two-year deal with the option for a further year at the Stadio San Paolo.

The two parties held discussions on Tuesday night after it emerged that Sarri would not remain at the club and further positive talks took place on Wednesday morning.

As a result, a deal was reached between the former Bayern Munich boss and the Partenopei on Wednesday evening and he has agreed to a two-year contract, with the option for a further season, which is worth €6.5 million per season.

Napoli confirmed the news with a brief announcement on their website, which crashed shortly afterwards, and Ancelotti is set to begin his work on June 1.

“Napoli are pleased to announce that we have reached an agreement with Carlo Ancelotti to take charge of the first team for the next three seasons, starting in 2018/19,” read the club’s statement.

It will be a family affair in the dugout at the San Paolo under the ex-Milan coach, who is set to be assisted in his backroom team by his son Davide, his son-in-law Mino Fulco and father and son duo Giovanni and Francesco Mauri, who will oversee the fitness side of things.

The fact that the Partenopei have not sacked Sarri means that he will not receive €500,000 in a payoff but would mean that Napoli could take in up to €8m if he is hired within the next year by Chelsea or Zenit, who he has been linked with, under the terms of his contract.

Ancelotti is already discussing names of players he would like to bring in this summer and it is believed that Napoli will pursue both Arturo Vidal and Suso in the transfer market.
