Inter coach Luciano Spalletti has made it clear he doesn’t expect the club to exercise their options for Rafinha and Joao Cancelo, though things could change in the future.

The duo joined the Nerazzurri on loan from Barcelona and Valencia respectively, but the Italian club have options to make their moves permanent before the end of the month.

However with Inter still obliged to meet Financial Fair Play by June 30, Spalletti made it clear he doesn’t expect moves to happen before then.

“The club has already started to move well, but they need to balance the books which is crucial,” Spalletti told reporters at a press conference on Thursday.

“Football has changed. Before they gave you a penalty and you couldn’t go back on that decision, just like before you could spend what you wanted.

“Now we have to keep in line with the settlement agreement signed by the previous owners, having inherited it we must keep to its criteria and requirements. Once that’s done we can reinvest, but it’s difficult to get big names, like last year.

“That isn’t to say they can’t be signed, but everything depends on what we can come up with. Right now Rafinha and Cancelo can’t be signed outright, even if they did very well for Inter.

“We’ll see later, but right now we can’t.”

Last season Rafinha finished with two goals in 16 appearances for Inter, while Cancelo netted once in 16 matches.
