After an unsuccessful debut season at AC Milan, Mateo Musacchio is being courted by former club Villarreal, although he will not be allowed to leave on a cut-price deal.

The 27-year-old arrived at the San Siro from the Yellow Submarine as part of the Rossoneri’s massive recruitment drive but things haven’t quite worked out for him in Italy.

Finding it difficult to displace the chosen central back pairing of Alessio Romagnoli and Leonardo Bonucci and made just 12 starts in all competitions.

According to El Gol Digital, his former club are looking at options to strengthen their rearguard and with Musacchio deemed surplus to requirements under Gennaro Gattuso, they are keen to bring him back to LaLiga.

Milan spent €18m to sign the defender last summer and it is reported that they will not be willing to sell him for a cheaper price if he is to leave this summer and Massimiliano Mirabelli is unwilling to entertain any cut-price offers.
