Upon his official presentation as an Inter player on Thursday, Radja Nainggolan confessed that he does harbour some regret over the way things ended at Roma.

In the past, the Belgian international had turned down opportunities to move elsewhere and had discussed the possibility of seeing out his career at the Stadio Olimpico.

However, after being moved to Inter for €24 million plus two players in return in a transfer that went against his own wishes, he briefly discussed the departure, while also disclosing that the Nerazzurri have made attempts to sign him in the past.

“I’m only worried about the present so I don’t want to say too much about Roma but I think that given how my time there ended, things could have finished differently,” Nainggolan told the assembled media.

“I don’t want to say much more than that though because I’m happy to be here and I feel the trust of the club, who made it clear during negotiations how much they wanted to sign me so I want to repay that trust.

“In the past, [Inter] have contacted me but there was no chance of it happening. However, I’m here now and I want to enjoy this. I’m very happy to be here.”

The former Cagliari man also touched on his hopes for the upcoming season with Inter and insisted that he is desperate to end both his and the club’s wait for silverware.

“I hope to win something here because I haven’t yet succeeded in doing that and I’m also pleased to be playing under [Luciano] Spalletti once again,” he added.

“This is a club that is very motivated and believe in what we must do. It isn’t only about focusing on Serie A or the Champions League. We want to fight on all fronts and in the end, we will see where it gets us.”
