Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic could be in line for a summer return to Serie A, with Napoli having registered an offer for the Croatia international

In the summer of 2015, after the Italian tactician had parted company with Los Blancos, the 24-year-old made the move from Inter to the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu in order to aid the Nerazzurri’s battle against Financial Fair Play.

According to MARCA, a number of clubs are interested in signing Kovacic this summer and offering him the first team football that he craves, with Napoli among the major suitors.

So much so, that the report also claims that the Partenopei have made an undisclosed bid for the ex-Inter ace and it is one that Real, while reluctant to sell, are believed to be happy with.

Although the Champions League holders do not want to sell Kovacic this summer, and he does have a contract with three years left on it, the player has made it clear that he no longer wants to stay at a place where he isn’t guaranteed regular playing time.

It isn’t clear as yet whether new coach Julen Lopetegui counts on the Croatian as part of his plans, yet the player has been firm in his stance that a summer exit is his preference.
