After leading Roma to a first Champions League semi-final in 33 years, coach Eusebio Di Francesco has been rewarded with a new contract.

The former Sassuolo tactician enjoyed a successful debut season in the Stadio Olimpico dugout as the Giallorossi finished third in Serie A, and defeated Barcelona, Chelsea and Shakhtar Donetsk en route to the final four of the Champions League.

Despite eventually succumbing to Liverpool, Di Francesco’s efforts have sufficiently impressed Roma’s hierarchy and the capital club took to their official website on Monday to confirm a new two-year contract had been signed.

Di Francesco has committed to the Lupi until 30 June 2020 and spoke of his delight at being able to continue leading a club with whom he lifted the Scudetto as a player in 2001.

“I am extremely pleased to be able to continue this adventure with Roma and our great fans,” the 48-year-old told ASRoma.com.

“The confidence that the president [James Pallotta] and the directors have always shown in me makes me very proud, and I hope to repay them all next season with a campaign that is even more exciting than the last.”

The tactician led Roma to 29 victories and 10 draws from his 51 matches at the helm in his maiden season, having arrived at the club from Sassuolo last June.
