Sampdoria have identified midfielder Leandro Paredes as their marquee summer signing just a year on from his switch from Roma to Zenit Saint Petersburg.

The 23 year-old is seen as an ideal replacement for Lucas Torreira, who is expected to complete a €30 million move to Arsenal in the coming weeks.

According to La Repubblica, the Blucerchiati would like to reunite Paredes with coach Marco Giampaolo, who coached him during his time with Empoli.

Paredes is thought to be unsettled in Russia and would welcome a return to Serie A, which Sampdoria are counting on to lower Zenit’s demands of €20 million.

Regardless of the price, the deal would represent a real statement of intent from Sampdoria if they can tempt the former Roma man to the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.
