Karim Benzema remains a player of interest for Napoli but purchasing the 30-year-old from Real Madrid comes with a couple of obstacles.

The scoring rate of the French international has declined in the last two seasons, especially in 2017-18 when he scored just five goals in 32 LaLiga games, and he was not selected to represent his native France at the 2018 World Cup due to disciplinary reasons.

La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that new Napoli coach Carlo Ancelotti wants Benzema to join the southern Italian club after working with him at Los Merengues from 2013 until 2015 but there are issues in regards to his price tag and his wages.

If the Partenopei are to acquire the French striker outright, he is expected to cost no less than €40 million and he earns €8m per season on a contract that expires in June 2021, but the Ciucciarelli are hoping that their new tactician can persuade the Frenchman to lower his wage demands.

Benzema joined Real Madrid in 2009 and he has scored 193 goals in 412 competitive matches for the Spanish giants.
