Arsenal have completed the signing of Sampdoria star Lucas Torreira from Arsenal in a deal worth just over €25 million.
Last season, the 22-year-old was one of the standout players in Serie A, excelling at the heart of the action for the Blucerchiati and attracting admirers from across the continent.
After weeks of speculation, his departure was confirmed by both Arsenal and Sampdoria on Tuesday, with Torreira penning a long-term deal at the Emirates Stadium.
Sampdoria president Massimo Ferrero paid tribute to the Uruguay international, who played in each game for his country at this summer’s World Cup as they reached the quarter-finals, following the move.
“The entire club would like to sincerely thank the midfielder for his hard work in these past two seasons and wish him the very best of luck in his future career,” read a Sampdoria statement.
“We are proud to have put our faith in him and of the role that the club played in launching his career in top flight football.”
Torreira played for Sampdoria for two years, chalking up 74 appearances, contributing four goals and four assists.
