Former AC Milan goalkeeper Christian Abbiati could be on his way back to the club having previously occupied the role of team manager.

The 41-year-old left his role earlier in the summer, revealing later on the difficulties faced under the new ownership and coach Vincenzo Montella.

However with the arrival of Leonardo and Paolo Maldini under the ownership of Elliott Management the former Atletico Madrid and Juventus shot stopper would consider returning to Milan once again.

“Both Leonardo and Paolo returning is already a step in the right direction, and Gattuso has proven to be a great coach,” Abbiati told RMC Sport.

“I was surprised by their return, I will have a coffee with Leonardo and Maldini at Casa Milan in September and we will see what happens.”

Abbiati made 380 appearances for Milan, surpassing the previous record held by Sebastiano Rossi for a goalkeeper at the club.
