New Napoli coach Carlo Ancelotti is reportedly planning to overhaul the Partenopei in a tactical sense as they prepare for their first Serie A campaign since the departure of Maurizio Sarri to Chelsea.

The Ciucciarelli have suffered a couple of embarrassing losses including a 5-0 humiliation from English club Liverpool as well as a 3-1 defeat to German team Wolfsburg and the 59-year-old has been particularly concerned with the defence.

La Gazzetta dello Sport report that Ancelotti has observed the struggles Napoli have with playing with a high defensive line and that the centre-back pairing of Raul Albiol and Kalidou Koulibaly have not been able to replicate the form they had under Sarri.

It is likely that the Partenopei will play with a four-man defence but they will be defending deeper than what they have become accustomed to in recent seasons and more defensive midfielders are likely to feature.

Ancelotti became coach of Napoli after he was sacked by German giants Bayern Munich in 2017-18 while Sarri joined Chelsea after three seasons with the Neapolitans.
