Gennaro Gattuso is expected to use a 4-3-3 formation for AC Milan’s season debut against Napoli, with Gonzalo Higuain set to feature in his first Serie A match for the club.

The Rossoneri did not play this past weekend, as their match with Genoa was postponed due to the collapse of the Ponte Morandi bridge.

As a result Gattuso’s side will play their first match against Napoli at the Stadio San Paolo, and the latest out of training has Higuain set to start in attack against his former side.

The Argentine joined the Rossoneri from Juventus this summer, but despite netting 71 goals in 104 appearances for the Partenopei from 2013 to 2016, the home fans aren’t likely to give him a warm welcome after his departure for the Old Lady.

With Hakan Calhanoglu out due to suspension, early reports suggested Fabio Borini would feature on the left of the trident, but it now appears Giacomo Bonaventura is favourite to start.

Tiemoue Bakayoko is also expected to be handed his Milan debut in midfield.

AC Milan’s expected starting XI: Donnarumma; Calabria, Musacchio, Romagnoli, Rodriguez; Kessie, Biglia, Bakayoko; Suso, Higuain, Bonaventura
