Serie A is up and running and there were some fine team and individual performances across the peninsula, but none more so than Atalanta’s Alejandro ‘Papu’ Gomez who put Frosinone to the sword on Monday evening.

Papu got the Bergamaschi up-and-running after a quarter of an hour with a calm finish over Marco Sportiello and that was just the start for the diminutive Argentinian.

Then turning provider, the No.10 displayed his creativity by picking out Hans Hateboer at the back post with a cross from deep before some of his trademark trickery allowed him to find debutant Mario Pasalic for Atalanta’s third.

Before the game was done Papu had time to put the cherry on the icing on top of the cake. Gathering the ball in the opposition half, Gomez charged forward before unleashing a fierce curling strike low into Sportiello’s goal and while the ex-Atalanta stopper managed to get a hand to it he could not keep it out.
