After Napoli were beaten by Juventus, Partenopei coach Carlo Ancelotti lamented his side’s reaction to their opponents’ growing stature in the game and eventual 3-1 defeat.

Dries Mertens had put Napoli in the lead after just 10 minutes, but Mario Mandzukic struck 16 minutes later, then got the second early in the second half. Leonardo Bonucci got the third on 76 minutes, thanks to another Ronaldo assist.

“The defeat won’t affect the dressing room,” Ancelotti told the press. “The is a sense of regret of course as we started very well.

“Then Juventus became more competitive and we were intimidated. When we were reduced to 10 men we had the opportunity to equalise.

“Allan was out best player, and the first half was perfect. I want to repeat what I said. Juventus’ competitiveness comprised our style.

“They [Juventus] have two different teams, we need to understand how to improve the quality of our game. Personality comes with experience, in playing certain games.

“It is always a hard match in Turin, and we have to keep things equal for as long as possible. We should’ve kept up the courage we showed.”

Cristiano Ronaldo was the star of the show as his three assists helped down the Partenopei.

“This is normal for Cristiano,” Ancelotti went on. “He is an important and decides player. It is a pleasure to have him in Italy.”
